Saint Elizabeth’s Food Drive

The Benedictine Sisters in Ridgely have a long history with Saint Elizabeth’s parish in Wilmington, Delaware and thus, so does Saint Martin’s Ministries (SMM). This history includes Sisters that have taught at St. E’s schools, many donors who graduated from St. E’s and at least two Board members of Saint Martin’s who attended church and school in the parish.

Each year that relationship of giving and caring grows when St. E’s students conduct the annual Thanksgiving food drive. SMM Board Secretary Dana Delle Donne, principal of the Middle School, gives the assignment and every grade, PreK through 12 participates. Dana says, ‘They really take ownership of the food drive because the students have come to know and understand what SMM is about.’

This year SMM received more than 3000 pounds of donated food from the St. E’s drive, along with much needed personnel care products collected by the faculty. Father Norm Carroll, whose prior assignment was the Ridgely/Denton parish of St. Benedict/St. Elizabeth not only helps the students learn about helping others, but also came with Dana and a group of students to deliver all the food.

Cereal, pasta, tomato sauce, tuna and peanut butter and jelly flowed into Saint Martin’s warehouse. Many families’ food boxes will contain the foods from Saint Elizabeth’s students.

Thanks so much for your generosity.
